For Derek, pursuing transformative experiences in the mountains is his passion. Whether it’s competing in an ultra trail running race, a long distance mountain bike traverse, or an alpine climb- it’s the journey through the mountains that matters. Helping others along this journey is what excites him about working as an Expedition Leader at No Barriers.

Derek brings a diverse background to No Barriers. He studied Biology at Middlebury College in Vermont and Zoology at the University of Cape Town in South Africa. Between serving in the Peace Corps in West Africa and managing multi-million dollar solar electric projects throughout the American West, Derek has accomplished many ski mountaineering and climbing objectives including a ski descent of Mount Rainier and mixed climbing routes on Mooses Tooth in the Alaska Range.

An aspiring AMGA Rock, Ski, and Alpine Guide, NOLS climbing and mountaineering instructor, and EMT with the Copper Mountain Ski Patrol, Derek can be found running, biking, climbing and skiing throughout the Rocky Mountains.
