Jacob Burch served six years in the U.S. Army. He deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom multiple times over the course of his career as an armor crewman. During his last deployment, Burch was hit by a large improvised explosive device and received a traumatic brain injury, which led to his retirement from military service.
When he first separated from the military, Burch was not successful in confronting his issues. Over the years, he’s found that sharing his experiences with other veterans provides a wonderful solace.
In addition to his TBI, Burch suffers with post-traumatic stress disorder. He hopes the expedition will help him discover new and better coping mechanisms for both injuries.
